As part of our ongoing efforts to support the victims of the “Iron Swords” war, our firm represents the communities of Sde Nitzan, Talmei Eliyahu, Ohad, and Tzohar. These four communities are part of the Eshkol Regional Council and are located very close to the Gaza Strip border—approximately 8 kilometers away.
A few days after the October 7 massacre, the government formulated the “Rehabilitation Plan” aimed at the restoration and development of the affected border communities. However, unfortunately, it was decided that only communities within a distance of up to 7 kilometers from the Gaza border would be included in the plan. Consequently, the four communities represented by our office found themselves excluded from the plan, as they lie just a few hundred meters beyond the 7-kilometer limit.
This unjust decision towards these four communities, as they exceed the 7-kilometer threshold by a minimal margin, their central life activities—including educational institutions, essential services, community infrastructure, access routes, and livelihoods—are deeply embedded within the region designated as the “Rehabilitation Zone.” Excluding them from the plan amounts to severe and unjust discrimination, denying them a real opportunity for recovery and prosperity.
With the support of our firm, these four communities have filed a petition with the High Court of Justice, requesting that the court instruct the government to include them in the “Rehabilitation Plan.” Recognizing the importance of this issue, the court has decided that an urgent hearing on the petition will be held by the end of the calendar year.
